Child Therapy Office

What Our Occupational Therapist's Do:

At Benefit, our Occupational Therapists (OTs) are dedicated to helping individuals of all ages build independence and improve their ability to participate in everyday life. We work closely with clients, families, and support teams to deliver personalised, evidence-based therapy that’s tailored to each person’s unique goals and circumstances.

We proudly support NDIS participants, helping them maximise their funding to achieve meaningful outcomes across a range of areas.

Our Occupational Services:

Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA)

  • Comprehensive assessments to determine a participant’s functional abilities across daily life domains.

  • Used to support access to the NDIS, funding reviews, or planning for supports.

Assistive Technology (AT) Assessments

  • Identify the need for equipment like mobility aids, wheelchairs, shower chairs, hoists, and home modifications.

  • Provide detailed reports to justify funding under the “Assistive Technology” or “Capital Supports” budget.

Capacity Building Therapy

Funded under “Improved Daily Living,” OTs help participants build functional skills in areas such as:

  • Personal care (showering, toileting, grooming)

  • Domestic tasks (cooking, cleaning, budgeting)

  • Community access (transport training, using public transport)

  • Emotional regulation and sensory processing (often for autistic individuals)

  • Executive functioning (planning, memory, organisation)

Home Modifications

  • Assess the home environment to recommend and justify changes (e.g. ramps, grab rails, accessible bathrooms).

  • Coordinate with builders and provide supporting reports.

Support for Independent Living (SIL/SDA/SDA)

  • Assess a participant’s ability to live independently or in supported housing.

  • Recommend SIL or SDA where appropriate, and assist with goal-setting for daily living.

Carer Training and Support

  • Train informal supports (e.g. parents or carers) in safe manual handling, equipment use, behaviour management, or communication strategies.

Goal Setting and Life Transitions

  • Support with school readiness, transitioning to work, or gaining independence in adult life.
